Maximising Natural Light
This old home in Enfield was in need of transformation and modern sophistication. Our clients, embarking on their first home renovation together, envisioned a space that felt open, inviting, and filled with natural light.
To achieve this, we strategically integrated skylights to brighten the hallways with maximum natural daylight. Our team framed the skylights with architectural precision, creating a naturally bright and airy interior that feels spacious and refined throughout the day.
Beyond natural light, the project centred on improving the home’s flow. By opening up the kitchen and living areas with steel beams under the roof, we created a seamless connection between each area of the home.
The result was an inviting and functional living environment that feels effortlessly spacious, delivering everyday comfort and a welcoming area for guests.
Key Considerations
Steel Beam Installation – Installing a 7-meter steel beam beneath the existing roof required expertise and precision. We temporarily propped the roof load, hand-dug pad footings for the new steel beam, and carefully reloaded the existing roof onto the new beam for stability and openness.
Addressing Moisture – Years of water accumulation beneath the home led to dampness and termite damage. We resolved this by excavating a deep trench along the exterior and implementing a drainage system to redirect water away from the foundation.
The original roof tiles had been secured with non-galvanized nails, causing widespread deterioration due to moisture expansion. After assessing between tiled or colourbond roofing options, the clients opted for a colourbond roof for better durability and aesthetics. Our team managed the entire process, providing supplier quotes and advice that complemented the home’s look and long-term preservation.
